Is my brilliant friend gay
In "The Lost Daughter", the narrator (who I have a strong belief is the same character as Elena in My Brilliant Friend), explicitly mentions having sex with a woman in the context of a threesome, and the entire book is a psychosexual obsession with the beautiful young woman on the beach. Could my humble, homosexual spirit spelunk safely into the Dantean depths of what has been described as one of the all time best depictions of female friendship?.
The central theme of My Brilliant Friend is the complex, often fraught friendship between Elena and Lila. Their relationship is characterized by deep affection, intense rivalry, and mutual dependence. Alfonso Carracci is Stephano's cousin, who is Lila's husband. He shares a deep friendship with Lila and Elena throughout the series.
We even see him coming out to Elena in Episode 6 when he confesses to Elena in the car that he is gay. Alfonso's queerness is subtly hinted at throughout My Brilliant Friend. Gino is Lenu's classmate and brief boyfriend. In Episode 3, he and a friend corner Elena in the girls' bathroom and pay her ten lire to show them her breasts. It's not a coming out story and there's nothing explicit between the main characters.
my brilliant friend, alfonso
However, the relationship in itself is pretty ambiguous, ranging from attraction and obsession to jealousy and a very deep loyalty despite all their differences. It's a bond that definitely comes off as a bit queer, like an intense romantic friendship between women at the beginning of the XX century. At its core, it's a reflection on the self and the other, but it can be interpreted any way you want.
Write a comment Marta Piotrowska To be precise, one of the secondary characters turns out to be gay - but this isn't revealed until much later in the story somewhere around book 3. Heriette Nope, there's no gay plot in this book. More questions about My Brilliant Friend…. My Brilliant Friend. Want to Read saving…. Want to Read Currently Reading Read. Error rating book.
